Bafang error 05: Throttle error

The throttle signal is out of range: either zero (open circuit) or too high (short). Unlike 04, this means the controller cannot read a plausible throttle voltage at all. Assist and throttle are disabled until the signal is valid.
Likely causes
- Broken throttle signal wire or unplugged throttle connector
- Water ingress shorting the throttle hall sensor
- Failed throttle hall sensor
- Pinched cable on the handlebar or at the head tube
- Controller throttle input damaged (rare)
How to fix Bafang error 05
- Check the throttle connector is fully seated and locked; look for bent pins
- Follow the throttle cable for crush or cut damage, especially where it turns into the frame
- Unplug the throttle: if the error clears and the bike gives pedal assist, replace the throttle
- Dry and clean the connector; use dielectric grease to keep water out
- If a new throttle still shows 05, have a shop test the 5V supply and signal pin on the controller
