Bafang error 12: Current sensor error

The controller's current sensor reads a value that cannot be right, usually a non-zero current at rest. Without a valid current reading the controller cannot regulate power, so it shuts down. This is an internal controller fault.
Likely causes
- Failed shunt or hall current sensor on the controller board
- Controller damaged by a phase short or a blown MOSFET
- Water damage on the controller board
- Very rarely a firmware calibration fault
How to fix Bafang error 12
- Power cycle once; if the code returns, it is hardware
- Unplug the motor and power on: if the code disappears, check the motor for a phase short (see error 09)
- Inspect the controller for burnt smell, discoloured connectors or water
- Replace the controller; the sensor cannot be repaired economically
