Bafang error 14: Motor over temperature

Bafang BBS01/BBS02/BBSHD, M-series mid-drives and hub motors (UART & CAN displays)WarningRide with caution

The motor's internal temperature sensor reports overheating, so the controller cuts or limits power to protect the windings and magnets. Riders see this after long climbs, heavy cargo or off-road use at low speed. It clears once the motor cools.

Likely causes

How to fix Bafang error 14

  1. Stop and let the motor cool 15-20 minutes, then power cycle
  2. Use lower gears and keep cadence up so the motor spins faster and pulls less current
  3. Avoid full throttle from standstill with heavy loads on hub motors
  4. Lower the current limit if you have raised it
  5. If it trips in mild riding, have the motor's sensor and windings checked
Go to a dealer if: Go to a shop if the motor overheats on easy rides or the code no longer clears after cooling.
Warranty: If the bike or kit is under warranty (usually 1-2 years via the seller), contact them before opening anything, as opened motors and controllers can void the claim.
Typical cost: Usually free; a motor temperature sensor or stator repair is EUR/USD 60-250.
Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.

It clears itself after cooling. Power cycle if the display keeps showing it.

Can I keep riding with error 14?
