The controller detected a fault on the headlight output: short circuit, over-current or open circuit. The bike rides normally but the light does not work and the code shows on the display. Not a safety issue for the drive.

How to fix Bafang error 23

  1. Switch the light off and on again from the display; power cycle
  2. Unplug the headlight: if the code clears, the light or its cable is at fault
  3. Inspect the cable and connector for water, corrosion or pinching; dry and clean
  4. Replace the headlight with one rated for the controller output (typically 6V, max ~1A on Bafang)
  5. If the code stays with the light unplugged, the controller light output is damaged: shop
