Bafang error 07: Over voltage protection

The controller measured a battery voltage above its allowed maximum and shut down. Riders often see this right after a full charge, on long descents with regenerative-capable systems, or after fitting a higher-voltage battery. The motor stays off until the voltage falls back inside the window.
Likely causes
- Battery voltage is too high for the controller (52V pack on a 48V-only controller, 48V on a 36V)
- Freshly charged pack sitting slightly above the controller's upper limit
- Faulty charger overcharging the pack
- Controller voltage sensing circuit drifting or damaged
- Regenerative braking pushing voltage up on a full battery (CAN hub systems)
How to fix Bafang error 07
- Confirm the battery nominal voltage matches the controller and display settings
- Ride a short distance on low assist (or let the pack rest) to bring voltage down, then power cycle
- Measure the battery at the terminals: 54.6V max for 48V, 58.8V for 52V, 42V for 36V
- Check the charger's output voltage with a multimeter; replace it if it exceeds the pack rating
- If the voltage is correct and the code persists, the controller's sense circuit is faulty: shop
