Bafang error 41: Battery total voltage too high

Bafang CAN systems (M400/M500/M600/M620, DP C18 CAN, 850C/860C CAN)WarningRide with caution

The battery's BMS reports a total pack voltage above its limit. Riders see this right after charging or when a charger of the wrong voltage was used. The system limits or blocks power until the voltage drops.

Likely causes

How to fix Bafang error 41

  1. Disconnect the charger and check its rated output matches the battery
  2. Ride on low assist for a few minutes to lower the voltage, then power cycle
  3. Measure the pack voltage; if it is above the rated maximum, stop using that charger
  4. Have the BMS checked if the measured voltage is normal but the code persists
Go to a dealer if: Go to a shop if the pack voltage is normal on a multimeter but the code stays; the BMS is misreading.
Warranty: Battery warranty applies to BMS faults; damage from a wrong charger is excluded.
Typical cost: A correct charger EUR/USD 40-100; BMS repair EUR/USD 80-150.
Still stuck? Take a photo of the display and show it to a local e-bike workshop. Bring the bike's system name (e.g. Bosch Performance Line CX) and the exact code; that saves diagnostic time and money.
