Yamaha PW error E2: Torque sensor error
Yamaha PW series (PW-X3, PW-X2, PW-X, PW-ST, PW-TE, PW-SE, PW-CE) and Giant/Liv SyncDriveFix at homeRide with caution
E2 indicates the drive unit's torque (pedal force) sensor gave an abnormal reading or failed to zero at start-up. Assist feels absent, jerky or comes on without pedalling. A clean restart with unloaded pedals often clears it. Also shown on Giant/Liv (SyncDrive) bikes, sometimes with a leading zero (E01) or as 'Er' followed by the number on older Yamaha displays.
Likely causes
- Foot on a pedal or weight on the cranks when the bike was switched on
- Switched on while moving
- Loose crank or chainring interfering with the sensor
- Torque sensor failure inside the drive unit
How to fix Yamaha PW error E2
- Switch off, take your feet off the pedals, keep the bike still and switch on again
- Check crank arm bolts are tight
- Repeat the clean start a few times
- If E2 keeps appearing with unloaded pedals, the dealer needs to check sensor values
