Bosch error 418: Remote / control unit buttons blocked
One or more buttons on the handlebar remote appear to be held down permanently. The bike keeps working but mode changes may be ignored, or the mode may jump on its own.
Likely causes
- Dirt or grit under the remote's rubber buttons
- Water inside the remote after rain or washing
- A brake lever, bell or grip mounted so close it presses a button
- Worn rubber keypad that no longer springs back
- Internal switch damage after a fall onto the bars
How to fix Bosch error 418
- Press each remote button several times and feel for one that stays down
- Check nothing on the bar is touching the remote; loosen and rotate it slightly if needed
- Clean around the buttons with a soft brush; if wet, let it dry indoors overnight
- Restart the system and test the buttons again
- If a button still reads as stuck when clean and dry, a dealer can swap the remote
