Bosch error 490: Internal fault in the on-board computer
The display itself has reported an internal hardware or software fault. Assistance often continues, but the display may freeze, reboot or show wrong data. A repeating 490 normally means the display needs replacing.
Likely causes
- Internal electronics failure in the display
- Water ingress after heavy rain or washing
- Corrupted firmware
- Physical damage after a drop
- Very cold or hot conditions causing a temporary fault
How to fix Bosch error 490
- Switch off, remove the display from its holder, wait a minute and refit it
- If the display has been wet, leave it to dry indoors overnight
- Restart and test
- If the code returns, a dealer should try a firmware update and, if that fails, replace the display
Warranty: Bosch drive units, batteries and displays carry a 2-year manufacturer warranty in most markets; a genuine internal fault within that period is normally replaced free through the dealer.
Typical cost: Purion about 100-150 EUR/USD, Intuvia 150-250, Kiox or Nyon 250-400, plus fitting.
