E024 is a battery-side error that puts the pack into protection mode; the drive unit will not draw power until the battery clears the condition. It often follows a charging problem or an over-temperature event. Some batteries recover after a rest and a charge cycle, others need replacing.
Likely causes
- Charging with a non-Shimano or faulty charger
- Battery charged or used well below freezing or in extreme heat
- Battery over-current protection tripped
- Ageing pack with a failing cell group
How to fix Shimano STEPS error E024
- Remove the battery, let it rest indoors at room temperature
- Charge it fully on the genuine Shimano charger and watch the charger LED pattern
- Refit and power-cycle; if E024 clears after a full charge, monitor it over the next rides
- If it returns, dealer battery diagnosis is the next step
Go to a dealer if: Dealer with E-TUBE needed to read the battery's protection history and decide whether the pack is safe to keep using.
