Shimano STEPS error W012: Torque sensor initialization not completed

W012 appears when the torque sensor could not zero itself at power-on, usually because there was load on the pedals or the bike was moving when switched on. Assist may feel wrong or be absent until a clean restart. It is the warning-level sibling of E012.
Likely causes
- Foot on the pedal or standing on the cranks while switching on
- Switching on while rolling or with the bike on a stand with a pedal loaded
- Chain tension pulling on the crank at start-up on some frames
- Torque sensor drift
How to fix Shimano STEPS error W012
- Stop, switch off, take your feet off the pedals, keep the bike still and switch on again
- Wait for the display to fully boot before touching the pedals
- If it repeats on every clean start, ask the dealer to check the torque sensor in E-TUBE
